There are many factors involved in the development of wrinkles. These include fewer amounts of collagen and proteins as we get older, sun damage, repetitive facial expressions, smoking, genetics, and poor nutrition and hydration.
Find the right treatment to help you smooth wrinkles and fine lines
It’s normal for wrinkles and fine lines to develop on your face over time. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do about them. At Zi MedSpa, we offer treatments that can help you say goodbye to wrinkles.
Dysport and Xeomin are both injectable neurotoxins used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes, similar to Botox. But which one is right for you? Here’s a closer look at these two treatments.
What are the active ingredients?
Both Dysport and Xeomin contain botulinum toxin Type A, which temporarily relaxes muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The active ingredient works by blocking the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract, resulting in a smoother appearance of the skin above.
How are Dysport and Xeomin different?
While both products use the same active ingredient, there are differences in their formulations. Dysport contains a protein buffer around the botulinum toxin, which may cause the solution to diffuse more than Xeomin.
This diffusion can be beneficial when treating larger areas as it requires fewer injections. Xeomin, however, is often referred to as a “naked” injectable or a “pure-form injectable” because it contains botulinum toxin without any additive proteins. This lack of additives potentially reduces the risk of developing resistance (antibodies) that can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment over time.
How long does it take to work?
The time it takes for the effects of each treatment to become noticeable can vary slightly. Dysport generally shows results faster than Xeomin, with initial effects visible within about 2-3 days after injection, while Xeomin typically takes about 3-4 days. However, the full effect of both treatments can take up to two weeks.
How long do the results last?
Both Dysport and Xeomin typically last about 3 to 4 months depending on individual metabolism, the area treated, and the dosage used. Regular follow-up treatments are needed to maintain the desired effects over time.
Are these treatments safe?
Yes, when administered by a licensed healthcare official. Dysport was FDA-approved in 2009, and Xeomin received FDA approval in 2011.
What areas can be treated?
Dysport and Xeomin can be used to treat different areas of the face, including forehead lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, frown lines, and lip lines.
Are there any side effects?
Both treatments may have minor side effects. These can include redness, bruising at the injection site, swelling, and mild discomfort. However, any side effects are usually temporary and resolve within a few days.
